Zonet: Along with the rest of the country, World No Tobcco Day was observed all over Mizoram today. In the main function held in Vanapa Hall, the Assembly Speaker R.Romawia made a fervent appeal to the people to avoid use of tobacco and other tobacco products for maintaining good health. He also expressed regret at 65 percent of the people of the state still indulge in smoking and use of other tobacco products. He also expressed high hope that awereness will be created among the people soon through the endless effort made by Anti-Tobacco Squad, Mizoram State Tobacco Control Society and Indian Society on Tobacco & Health (Mizoram Chapter). The function was presided over by the Health Secretary, Esther Lalruatkimi. World No Tobacco Day was also observed in all Districts of the State.

Kawnpui police seized 118 kgs of Pseudoephedrine early this morning from a vehicle proceeding to Aizawl from Silchar. The drug was hidden among goods packed in gunny bags. The value of the Nargotics drugs in the local market is estimated at 50 lakh rupees. The main accused Rorelsanga of Vairengte Zalen Veng was also arrested and produced in the court at Kolasib today. A case has been registered against him at Kawnpui police Station under ND & PS Act, 1985.

ZNP alleged that the government has virtually closed down treasuries in the state for lack of funds to be transacted. In a press reslised ZNP said Govt. Deptt. are instructed not to submit their bills to the treasuries as they cannot be passed because of acute financial problems being face by the govt. The party also accused the Congress Govt. of diverting budget of Government Deptt. for distribution to the publics inconnection with implementation of NLUP.

Rajya Sabha Member, Lalhmingliana inaugurated new Kolasib Diakkawn YMA Hall yesterday which was constructerrd at the cost of Rs.1,03,32,995. The five-storeyed RCC building measures 120 by 60 feet in area. Of the total expenditure the Rajya Sabha Member provided 90 lakh rupees from MP’s Local area development fund. Addressing the function the MP described unity among the people of the locality and the NGO’s as exemplary for the rest of the state. He also said that the Govt. has to pay special attention to the problems of the districts as it is situated in the border with Assam and Manipur.

Visitors of Rangvamual and Phunchawng have decreased follwoing expulsion of foreign national and sellers of illicit liquor with effect from the 15th of this month. Our corr. who visited the two villages reported that visitors and their vehicles are not practically seen during the last few days. As reported earlier, Central YMA is to launch the second drive in the two villages tomorow to check illicit liquor and bogus Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC).

Newly trained 45th State Disaster Response Force completed their training today in the 5th IR Battalion Headquarters at Lungverh. Addressing the passsing out parade, the Home Minister R.Lalziraliana said Mizoram still needs more State Disaster Response Force to meet exigency in case of earthquake or other natural calamities. He also hailed the role played by the State Disaster Response Force in recent major landslide in Laipuitlang. Referring to the police officers who still engaged constables in their personal works the Home Minister said no further warning will be given. The Govt. will be compelled to take neccessary action against the erring officers.

Today, the maximum temperature of Aizawl is 26.6 and the minimum is 20.1 degree celsius. Rainfall during the day was 5.2 Milmeter. Humidity is 56.4 to 89.5 percent.

Weather forecast for tomorrow indicates rainfall and the temperature is likely to be between a maximum of 27 to the minimum of 20 Degree Celsius. - Zonet.
