Bangalore: Congress leader 64-year-old K Siddaramaiah was sworn in as the 22nd chief minister of Karnataka by the Governor H R Bharadwaj on Monday, May 13, 2013.
The five-minute solemn ceremony, which took place exactly at 11.40 am, was witnessed by more than 50,000 supporters who had assembled at the Sri Kanteerva Stadium, the venue of the function.
The Congress had last come to power in Karnataka in 2004 as part of a coalition government with the Janata Dal (Secular), a partnership that did not last long. This time it has been handed a clear majorit, winning 121 seats in the 224-member Assembly.
